EP.7: From Every Bottle to a New Beginning; The Plastic Circular Journey with GC and ENVICCO

Many people may not realize that “the drinking bottle in your hand” can one day return as a brand-new bottle — not just once, but dozens of times. More importantly, it remains safe, practical, and truly eco-friendly throughout its journey.
Behind this transformation — turning plastic waste into valuable, reusable resources — is GC’s ENVICCO plant, a crucial piece in the End-to-End Waste Management system that GC has been continuously developing. It plays a key role in closing the loop of plastic use, ensuring a complete circular flow and reducing the amount of plastic waste sent to landfills.
From Used Plastics to High-Quality Recycled Resins
ENVICCO is Thailand’s first Food-Grade recycled plastic resin facility, certified by the Thai FDA and meeting world-class standards, including those of EFSA and the U.S. FDA. The recycled resins produced here are marketed under the “InnoEco” brand and are used to make drinking water bottles, shampoo bottles, and everyday household products you’re already familiar with.
Through advanced sorting, washing, and recycling technologies, ENVICCO transforms post-consumer plastics into resins that are “clean, safe, and as good as new.” ENVICCO produces two main types of recycled resins:
-
PCR PET (Food Grade)
Recycled from used clear PET bottles, with an annual production capacity of 30,000 tons. These resins deliver virgin-like quality, are food- and beverage-safe, and are the first in Thailand to receive Thai FDA certification, as well as EFSA and U.S. FDA approval. They are used by leading drinking water and carbonated beverage brands both in Thailand and abroad.
-
PCR HDPE (General Packaging)
Recycled from used opaque HDPE bottles, with an annual production capacity of 15,000 tons. Using advanced cleaning and deodorizing technologies, ENVICCO produces resins with consistent color and no odor — ideal for manufacturing shampoo bottles, detergent containers, and various household products.
Beyond Business — A Tangible Commitment to the Planet
What ENVICCO does goes beyond addressing plastic waste — it helps protect the planet.
- Over 60,000 tons of plastic waste are diverted from the environment each year
- More than 75,000 tons of CO₂ equivalent emissions reduced annually
- The environmental benefit is comparable to planting over 8.3 million trees
Importantly, ENVICCO is also the first recycling plant in Thailand to receive carbon credits from TGO (Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization) through the Plastic Waste Sorting and Recovery project, developed by GC under circular economy principles. These carbon credits can be effectively used to manage future risks and costs associated with greenhouse gas emissions.
GC as a “System Integrator” Driving the Circular Economy
GC’s role goes beyond downstream solutions like ENVICCO. The company is also developing an end-to-end plastic management platform through GC YOU-Turn, creating a full circular system from upstream to downstream. The platform brings together government agencies, private sector partners, communities, educational institutions, and the public to sort, collect, transport, and return plastic waste into the proper recycling process.
This means…
“Every time you separate clear PET bottles and opaque HDPE bottles from other waste and drop them off at a GC YOU-Turn point, you are playing a part in changing the world.”
