GC Joins Forces to Enhance Flood Prevention with Innovative Flood Barrier Solutions Creating Differentiation Through Proactive Protection and Sustainable Loss Reduction

23 January 2026 – Bangkok: PTT Global Chemical Public Company Limited, or GC, together with the Department of Industrial Promotion, the Office of Industrial Economics, and the Plastics Institute, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to enhance the competitiveness of Thailand’s plastics industry in support of future industries. The collaboration reinforces GC’s role as a leading chemical business driven by innovation for the benefit of the world and society, while creating differentiation through the application of materials expertise and advanced technology to systematically strengthen disaster preparedness and response
This collaboration reflects GC’s distinctive approach in integrating the industrial, academic, and social sectors to drive the development of flood-protection products and equipment that deliver tangible outcomes. In particular, it focuses on advancing innovations that enhance the quality of life and strengthen public safety for Thai society over the long term. Drawing on its experience assisting flood-affected communities across the country, GC has leveraged its innovation capabilities and expertise in plastics and chemical materials to advance the concept of “proactive flood prevention before disasters occur.” This approach represents a clear departure from traditional disaster-management models that emphasize post-event recovery, aiming instead to sustainably reduce losses of life and property at the source.
The initiative has resulted in the development of an innovative flood barrier designed for real-world applications. The barrier is manufactured using a rotational molding process and InnoPlus® C6 (Hexene) LLDPE plastic resin, which offers outstanding strength, durability, environmental resistance, and shape retention. As a result, the barrier can be used to block floodwater at heights of 0.4–1.0 meters. It is suitable for outdoor use, easy to transport, and convenient to assemble, install, dismantle, and store. This innovation significantly enhances flood-prevention efficiency, effectively reducing damage to lives and property caused by water-related disasters.
At the same time, the partnership serves as a key mechanism for differentiating Thailand’s plastics industry through the end-to-end development of Recycled and BioPE product portfolios, extending opportunities into both domestic and international markets. It also supports product development across medical devices, public utilities and disaster-prevention equipment, as well as the agricultural sector, highlighting the potential of Thai plastics in terms of sustainability and socially driven applications. GC remains committed to advancing environmentally friendly petrochemical and chemical products, creating differentiation through innovations that not only meet industrial needs but are also designed to address the nation’s long-term environmental and disaster-related challenges
