GC – TPN FlexPak – W&H Launch 7-Layer Mono Material MDOPE Film with EVOH Barrier: 100% Recyclable Oxygen-Protection Packaging

August 19, 2025 – PTT Global Chemical Public Company Limited (GC), a global leader in chemicals for better living, announced an achievement in collaboration with business partners TPN FlexPak Co., Ltd., a leader in packaging production guided by sustainable principles to protect the environment, and Windmoeller & Hoelscher (W&H), a leading provider of machinery and systems for flexible packaging production. Together, the three partners have developed an innovative flexible packaging solution Mono Material MDOPE (Machine Direction Orientation Polyethylene) Film with a 7-layer structure incorporating EVOH (Ethylene Vinyl Alcohol), which delivers outstanding oxygen barrier properties. This film can be converted into 100% recyclable Mono Material packaging, marking a significant step forward in elevating Thailand’s packaging industry toward leadership in circular packaging.
This collaboration represents a fully integrated value chain partnership from resin production, packaging manufacturing, and machinery technology to deliver a packaging solution that meets both environmental requirements and industrial functionality. It addresses the limitations of traditional multi-material packaging, which is difficult to recycle and has resulted in low recycling rate of approximately 10%.
A New Chapter for Thailand’s Packaging Industry on the Global Stage
Mr. Saroj Putthammawong, Chief Operating Officer, Value Added Products, PTT Global Chemical Public Company Limited (GC), stated:
“As a leader in the chemical industry, GC is committed to developing innovations that meet the needs of customers, partners, and the environment sustainably. One of our latest innovations is the development of high-quality resin formulas for producing MDOPE film — a solution designed to replace conventional materials that are difficult to manage after use. When converted into packaging, this film is 100% recyclable under a Mono Material structure aligned with globally recognized CEFLEX design guidelines. This not only reduces environmental impact but also maintains high performance in product protection, durability, and formability.
This achievement is not just a lab-based innovation from GC but the result of collaboration with our partners TPN FlexPak, the film and packaging converter, and W&H, a leading provider of machinery and systems for flexible packaging, who supported TPN FlexPak to ensure compatibility with existing manufacturing processes and readiness to meet global market demands.”
Shaping the Future of Sustainable Packaging
Mr. Ananchat Thangkasemvathana, Managing Director, TPN FlexPak Co., Ltd., stated: “As a leader in plastic packaging, TPN FlexPak is committed to driving innovation that supports sustainability for both our nation and the world. We are dedicated to continuous research and development in collaboration with key stakeholders across all sectors to achieve our core value — delivering packaging solutions that are environmentally friendly at to the highest standards”
Technology That Enables True Sustainability
Mr. Christian Treitel, Service Director Asia Pacific, Windmoeller & Hoelscher (W&H), stated: “W&H specializes in blown film production technology and we are proud to be part of this project, providing our VAREX machine with inline MDO technology to TPN FlexPak. This system works seamlessly with GC’s high-quality polymers, resulting in packaging products with excellent properties. This project proves that high-quality, recyclable MDOPE film can be produced successfully with the right materials and processes. W&H is committed to providing long-term support in technology, performance, and service, and we are honored to contribute to this achievement alongside our partners.”
This collaboration marks a milestone in transforming the future of Thai packaging making it “100% recyclable” in practice, while supporting a truly sustainable circular economy. From the multi-layer, performance-focused packaging of the past to a new era where sustainability is at the heart of development, manufacturers, brands, and consumers alike are seeking solutions that perform well and are truly recyclable. This achievement is a concrete answer that will make a significant difference across the industry while aligning with global sustainability goals.
