Mr. Narongsak Jivakanun, Chief Executive Officer, received the prestigious Highly Commended Sustainability Award, presented to listed companies with outstanding sustainability performance and business operations aligned with environmental, social, and governance, or ESG, principles to create long-term positive impact. GC received this award for its progress toward becoming a low-carbon organization, its pioneering and continued adoption of the Circular Economy in business operations, and its portfolio transformation toward high value, low-carbon chemicals businesses to meet the sustainability needs of future industries. A key target is to achieve Net Zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.
Mr. Narongsak said, “GC is firmly committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions across the entire value chain, from upstream to downstream, through collaboration with partners, customers, and suppliers to deliver tangible results. In addition, we also operate the GC YOUTURN, an end-to-end used plastic management platform developed in collaboration with the public sector, leading organizations, and communities. The platform encourages people to bring used plastics to drop points, enabling proper sorting at source before the materials are sent to ENVICCO, GC’s world-class plastic recycling facility. This helps ensure that every piece of plastic waste is properly managed and recycled into plastic s, creating value instead of being sent to landfill. By maximizing reuse in line with Circular Economy principles. The initiative helps reduce plastic waste by more than 60,000 tonnes per year and lower greenhouse gas emissions by more than 75,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent per year, comparable to planting more than 8.3 million trees.”
Mr. Pukpong Wungrattanasopon, Chief Operating Officer, Base and Intermediate Chemicals, represented the company in receiving the Outstanding Innovative Company Award under the Business Excellence category. This award recognizes companies with outstanding innovation that creates value, sets new standards, and generates positive impact or Thailand’s economy and society. GC received this award for its Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) project, an alternative clean energy innovation that will play an important role in driving the aviation industry’s transition toward sustainability.
Mr. Pakpong said, “GC is proud to be the first company in Thailand to successfully produce SAF on a commercial scale and have it used in an actual flight by Bangkok Airways. This achievement was not made by building a new facility, but by applying GC’s knowledge, expertise, and technology to upgrade our existing refinery to support co-processing, using used cooking oil as feedstock. This marks an important step toward becoming a biorefinery capable of producing SAF and other environmentally friendly bio-based products.”
In addition, GC’s SAF has been certified to the international ISCC CORSIA standard (International Sustainability and Carbon Certification – Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation) and can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 80% compared with conventional aviation fuel.
GC continues to create differentiation through innovation and technology to deliver value to customers and society, while helping drive the world toward a low-carbon society for sustainable growth together.
